A statistical question is one that expects a variety of answers, so it needs data to answer. In Grade 6, students recognize and write statistical questions that generate numerical data.
"How many minutes did you spend on math homework last night?" asked of a whole class is statistical, because the answers will vary. "How tall is the school flagpole?" has only one answer, so it is not.
Official benchmarkRecognize and formulate a statistical question that would generate numerical data.
On the FAST test: part of the Grade 6 reporting category Geometric Reasoning, Data Analysis, and Probability, which is about 25–36% of the test.

It has only one answer, so there is no variability. It is not statistical.
That question gives categories (colors). For numerical data, ask something like "How many books did you read this month?"
Ask, "Would different people give different answers?" and "Is the answer a number?" Both must be yes.
