Common Mistakes to Watch For

Changing the wrong place

Wrong:One-tenth more than 5.27 is 5.28.

One-tenth changes the tenths digit: 5.27 + 0.1 = 5.37.

Not regrouping

Wrong:One-tenth more than 2.95 is 2.105.

9 tenths + 1 tenth = 10 tenths = 1 one: 2.95 + 0.1 = 3.05.

Helpful Math Tip
