Students identify, create, and extend number patterns that use addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. They use ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, ...) to describe where a number is in the pattern.
The first step is finding the rule, such as "add 6" or "multiply by 2."
Official benchmarkIdentify, create and extend numerical patterns.
On the FAST test: part of the Grade 3 reporting category Number Sense and Additive Reasoning, which is about 23–29% of the test.

Worked Example 2
Count the positions: 1st is 5, 2nd is 10, 3rd is 15.
Check the rule with every pair: 2 to 4 to 8 to 16 doubles each time (× 2). The next number is 32.
Make a table with two rows: the position (1st, 2nd, 3rd...) and the number. This keeps the count straight and helps your child spot the rule.
Help your child build math confidence with original interactive questions aligned with Florida's B.E.S.T. Mathematics Standards.
