Students use repeated addition to find the total in equal groups, and show it with rectangular arrays (rows and columns) and equations. The total is 25 or less.
For example, 3 rows of 5 stars is 5 + 5 + 5 = 15. This builds the foundation for multiplication in Grade 3.
Official benchmarkUse repeated addition to find the total number of objects in a collection of equal groups. Represent the total number of objects using rectangular arrays and equations.
How it is tested: Grade 2 students take FAST Star Math, Florida's math test for Kindergarten through Grade 2.
Worked Example 1
Worked Example 2
Add one row for each row: 4 + 4 + 4 = 12.
There are 4 rows, so add 6 four times: 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 24.
Look for arrays at home: egg cartons, muffin pans, windows, and tiles. Ask how many rows, how many in each row, and how many in all.
