Worked Example 1
Part-to-Part-to-Whole Table
- 11 batch: yellow 2, blue 3, total 2 + 3 = 5
- 22 batches: multiply by 2: yellow 4, blue 6, total 10
- 33 batches: multiply by 3: yellow 6, blue 9, total 15

Students build and complete two-column and three-column tables of equivalent ratios. A two-column table shows a relationship such as feet to inches. A three-column table shows part to part to whole, such as yellow paint, blue paint, and total paint.
Equivalent ratios come from multiplying (or dividing) every quantity in a row by the same number.
Official benchmarkExtend previous understanding of fractions and numerical patterns to generate or complete a two- or three-column table to display equivalent part-to-part ratios and part-to-part-to-whole ratios.
On the FAST test: part of the Grade 6 reporting category Algebraic Reasoning, which is about 25–36% of the test.
Worked Example 1
Worked Example 2
Add 2 to each and the ratio changes. Multiply both by 2: 2:3 = 4:6.
The total is scaled too: 4 + 6 = 10.
Make a real mixture, like lemonade from a concentrate, and record each batch size in a table with your child.
